Proofreading and Proof-editing:

I can proofread either on paper or on screen.

On paper, I use the BSI (British Standards Institution) symbols or any system that you may prefer.

Onscreen, I can work in Microsoft Word (using track changes and comments boxes), Adobe Acrobat or PDF X-Change for PDF documentation, and directly in InDesign.

Copy-editing:

I copy-edit on screen.

Pricelist:

The needs of each client vary from one to the next, so do my rates. My prices range from £12.50 per 1,000 words (£0.0125 per word) to £30 per 1,000 words (£0.03 per word). The price is dependent on the project and my level of involvement. For example, quick proofreading for grammatical errors will cost less per hour than intensive copy-editing or proof-editing would.

Urgent work (same day or next day turnaround), evening, and weekend work incur a 50% additional charge.

I have a minimum fee of £30 per job.

How much can I proofread, copy-edit, or proof-edit in one hour?

I will always ask to see the text or, at the very least, a sample before providing a quote. There are many variables involved, and no two texts are alike. However, I could go through about 3,000 words per hour for straightforward proofreading as a basic rule of thumb. When it comes to copy-editing or proof-editing, the process will be slower than straightforward proofreading as the process is more intensive, and the demands are different.
